The Last Bus - A Horror Tale

Nancy knew she was late, every minute that passed by she regreted being on a date without the concern of her parents. The bus stop was empty, on the streets she could hear nothing but the sound of her own heavy breathing. She had never seen Phoenix the way she was seeing it before.
The clock was marking 01:17am, she was terrified, out of the blue she felt the hair in her arms stand up, a cold breeze was running through her long brown hairs she knew she had probably missed the last bus but she still had a small hope that suddenly a bus might stop and she..d be safe. Footsteps, she looks around and sees noone - it..s getting closer to her but she still can..t see a single soul approaching her.
Through the mist ahead of her she sees a man, a tall man wearing a funny old hat and a big overcoat. She freaks out and decides to half-smile at him so he might realize she wasn..t afraid. The man smiles back at her. She asks if he knows what time it is and he smiles and tells her his watch stopped working a long time ago. She frowns and decides to ignore him. Nancy hated Phoenix, she was from New York she wasn..t used to a desert place like that at 1am in the morning of a Friday. She lits up a cigarette and offers the old man one. he says no with his head, smiling. Tired of waiting forever the young gitl decides to walk back home. As she turns around the old man tells her he wouldn..t do that if he was her. She asks why and he just smiles.
Nancy ignores the old man and keeps walking. Her breathing is getting heavier as she walks faster and faster. She looks up to the skies when she notices some funny and curious, to say the least, lights that seem to be following her. The girl ignores the lights when suddenly a huge ray of light falls down right in front of her like a cosmic waterfall. Nancy is amazed, she can..t move one single muscle, she tries but she just can..t, like if something bigger and stronger than her were in control of her whole body.
She hears a voice asking her if she wants to come with them. Nancy starts to cry, her lips move gently, softly and she..s able to pronounce a barelly unlistenable but convincent no. In a blink of an eye she notices that the lights were gone. Nancy desperatelly runs back to the bus stop and the old man is still there. Crying she tells him what happened and she gets one "i told you so" back. The man still smiling asks her where she was and she tells him:
- I was in a car near by the cliff with my boyfriend Juan, my parents didn..t know i had a date they thought i was at my friends..s house and then i don..t know what happened but my boyfriend just dumped me and i had to walk all the way here to this bus stop but i guess i missed the last bus.
The old man replies
- Is that what happened? hmmmm i can garantee you that you are much better here now, look at the street, there..s only the two of us here. Doesn..t that give you a sense of freedom, the sense that you could just start to fly without worries, without wondering what your folks are gonna say?
Nancy interrupts him
- What are you talking about? Are you crazy? Fly? Not worry? I just wanna get the hell outta here, all i wanted was to take the goddamn last bus.
Old Man
- Nancy my child, you just missed your last bus
Nancy
-What?
Old Man
- Well, you saw the lights didn..t you? Didn..t you choose to stay? This is your home now my darling, didn..t you feel how flying feels after your boyfriend threw you off that cliff ? - he laughs - You made your choice Nancy, you could have gone into the light, the shiny beautiful light but instead you came running back to me - louder laughter - now you and i belong together and when MY last bus arrive you and i are going to have one hell of a ride back home, my home, your home now, our home Nancy child.
Nancy vagally, slowly starts to remember that she was kissing her boyfriend Juan when she felt like a big push and suddenly she was fliying and whe she got her conscience back she was in the street looking for the bus stop, hoping to get the last bus, the last bus home, the last bus to her own home, her down on earth home. From now on Nancy knows she is doomed, she made her choice, she stayed. She can feel the warm tears rolling down her eyes as she sits right next the old man. He hands her his overcoat when she sees another light, now a dark one, a very dark one coming towards her and the old man, she closes her eyes and deeply sighs as she hears a huge disturbing noise
The old man says
- Waiting is over my child, our last bus is finally here
